Must Do’s in Puerto Rico

Castillo San Felipe del Morro & Castillo de San Cristobal

These two castles were built with the main purpose of protecting the city San Juan from colonies attacks. Castillo San Felipe del Morro was prepared to secure the city against the assaults coming from the sea and Castillo de San Cristobal against those coming from the land.

These are at the base two fortification. The first one was finished in 1787 after several attacks held in the XVI century and the second in 1790, being the biggest fort ever built by Spanish in the world. The constructions offer an unbelievable landscape over sea and land and it’s the perfect destination in Puerto Rico if you want to teleport yourself in the past.

Castillo de San Cristobal is open between 9 AM- 6 PM and has the same entry fee of 5 USD (children under 15 don’t pay any fees).

The El Yunque Rain Forest

The National Rainforest is located on the top of Sierra de Luquillo Mountains, in the northeastern part of Puerto Rico. The highest peak (El Toro) reaches the height of 3.494 feet. The forest is unique due to its characteristics. Because of the high density of humidity, you have the opportunity to see an amazing natural landscape. The forest is being a real tropical jungle which consists of numerous rivers and small waterfalls.

For those who love to hike, I recommend you this place. It’s well known as a top attraction in Puerto Rico.

Museo de Arte de Ponce

The museum’s foundation was built in 1959 and is an important attraction in Puerto Rico for tourists. You will be surprised of numerous hexagonal galleries, tropical gardens and a large amphitheater. Museo de Arte de Ponce hosts over 4.500 art objects.

It’s located in the southern part of Puerto Rico and can be visited from Wednesday to Monday between 10 AM- 5 PM. The ticket costs 3 USD for children under 12 and 6 USD for adults.

Puerto Rico has a rich environment. It’s hard to choose between the sea and land, because you will want to explore everything. However, there is one activity you can do to reconcile both desires – kayaking.
